Initially intrigued by the title of this collection, I was glad I took a punt on reading it as I had not heard of the author beforehand. What I discovered was a collection of poetry with some themes close to my heart. There is a lot of darkness in Peery's words, and visuals keep coming back to the theme of it raining.... his structure is well established, nothing is sloppy, these poems flow like the thoughts from his brain steadily and true. Tales of lost love, of partying, of guilt, remorse and regret, but all wrapped up and presented in such a likeable and genuine style.Product details

I decided to give it a shot being that it was one of the 2016 favorites on good reads. This poetry is not bad by any means. However, if you can't connect with the topics it can be hard to gain what you should out of the poems. The poems had a very boozy bluesy feel of a songwriter/veteran who has dealt with a lot of pain and also possibly a lot of drugs. Which i have very little experience in. That being said. I liked "hurt held her" and really liked "painted wings."
This is Midwestern American poetry at its best. It's not fancy; it's not formal...but it is real and it is compelling. You can find yourself linking melodies to many of these poems; in fact, Mr. Peery is an accomplished songwriter, and this bears out in his work in this book. This volume is not to be missed. Pick it up and enjoy this very authentic work.
This is a book of ambivalence and ambiguity, between night and day, young and old, where most beauty happens. In the gloaming between too young to care and too old to matter, "Tales of a Receding Hairline" floats like a firefly calling you into a swamp, and saying come in, the water's fine. Highly recommended.
Fantastic!!! Absolutely not to diminish his other work (which is great)...Have not been so moved since "The Captain is Back", and "Black Tie Affair". K.W. Peery hangs it all out there for everyone to feel! Keep tellin' the truth, and a hearty Thank You!!!!!

This author gets me. I'm standing in the rain, dealing with something difficult and all I want to do is grab a whiskey and throw caution to the wind. Except I'm getting a bit old for that, and so instead I have to re-evaluate, and think everything through first. I love the realism and the sincerity in the author's tone. He deals with his past, his mistakes and his issues that we all can relate to, but does so in a compelling and rhythmic way. Loved this book - go read it!
This is an excellently written collection of poems. The writing is tight and has purpose, and the pieces have a natural flow and pace. There is a real rhythm to these poems that struck me as I was reading, and I later discovered that the author also writes music, so perhaps that is why they have their own rhythmic quality, particularly when you read them out loud, which is a fantastic bonus and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Most of his poems I found to be honest confessions around his past and in particular drinking, but there were aspects I could relate to, and I appreciated the honesty.
